Are bass lessons worth it?

The decision is entirely dependent on how you intend to use your lessons. One of the best pieces of advice we can offer is that you will get out of lessons exactly what you put in.

Private bass lessons are absolutely necessary if you intend to become a professional bass player who is taken seriously and gets gigs. Although there are some musicians who are incredibly talented and are able to get gigs without lessons, a teacher will help you learn the basics as well as the language of how to communicate with other musicians.

We do not ask our students, "So what do you want to do now?" at Leaside Music School. A teacher has a general plan of what they intend to teach, and they allow you to give input about what you would like to learn. You will not know what you want to do if you do not have any experience with bass. This is where the teacher comes in. There is no doubt that in-person lessons are beneficial, especially for new players. As a general rule, it is easier to learn correct & efficient techniques than to unlearn incorrect ones.
