How much do 1 hour piano lessons cost?
Pricing varies a lot by region and by teacher. A university student teaching casually might charge $30 to $40 an hour, while an experienced, RCM-registered teacher at an established studio typically charges $60 to $90 or more. In a city like Toronto, expect established studios to fall in the $65 to $85 range for a one hour private lesson, with shorter 30 and 45 minute formats priced proportionally lower.
What affects the price of a piano lesson?
- Teacher experience and credentials. RCM-registered or university-trained teachers, especially those who perform professionally, generally charge more than casual or student teachers.
- Private vs. group lessons. One-on-one instruction costs more per hour than group classes, but progress is usually faster since the lesson is built entirely around one student.
- Lesson length. Shorter 30 or 45 minute lessons cost less per session than a full hour, though not always proportionally, since setup and review time stays roughly the same regardless of length.

Our rates are posted and billed per 4-lesson cycle, paid in advance to secure a weekly time slot:
- 1 hour lessons: $280 per 4-lesson cycle ($70 per lesson)
- 45 minute lessons: $220 per 4-lesson cycle ($55 per lesson)
- 30 minute lessons: $160 per 4-lesson cycle ($40 per lesson)
Music lessons aren't subject to sales tax, so those are the actual prices you'll pay. We don't charge registration or administration fees, and there are no packages, bundles, or contracts to sign. These rates cover the large majority of our private lessons and programs, from casual hobby playing through our advanced certificate programs, including our Let's Play programs for younger kids.
Is a 1 hour lesson better than a 30 or 45 minute lesson?
It depends on the student. Younger beginners and kids just starting out usually do better with 30 or 45 minutes, since attention naturally drifts past that point. A full hour tends to suit older kids, teens, and adults working on technique, theory, and a growing repertoire in the same sitting, or students actively preparing for an RCM exam who need the extra time to cover everything properly.
Are there any additional costs?
Beyond the posted per-cycle rate, most students have no additional costs. Intermediate and audition prep programs can involve some added cost for materials or extra instruction time needed to meet deadlines. Our Rock School and Jam Session programs are priced separately at $40 per hour.
